VETERAN RESOURCES – NATIONAL, LOCAL AND HELP LINES
The needs of transitioning Veterans extend beyond just food assistance. Vets need help with a broad range of issues in addition to fighting hunger for themselves and their families. This list of veteran resources seeks to provide Vets in-need with assistance outside Feed Our Vets’ core mission and service areas.
If there’s not a Feed Our Vets pantry in your neighborhood, this resource will give you a list of all the food assistance programs near you that feed low-income individuals, including Vets. Food is usually free to people in need through the national Food Bank system.
The National Veterans Foundation’s Lifeline for Vets™ assists Veterans of any era with any problem 355 days a year at 888-777-4443. The Lifeline is staffed by trained Veterans, many who have served multiple combat tours and are understand the Veterans perspective. The organization has a large database of national and regional resources to help Veterans in-need.
This tool will help you locate a Veterans Administration facility near you, including VA hospitals and VA Benefits Administration offices.
IAVA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Their programs empower our community online and offline, and include health, employment, education and community (HEEC) resources.
Stand Downs are regional collaborations between the Veterans Administration, and local community based organizations and health care providers. They provide a safe environment for homeless Veterans to receive food, clothing, medical care and other services.
Pro Bono legal assistance for Veterans seeking to appeal denied VA benefit claims
The Vet Center Program provides readjustment counseling to Veterans separating from the military after serving in combat. Vet Centers understand and appreciate Veterans’ war experiences while assisting them and their family members toward a successful post-war adjustment in or near their community.
The National Resource Directory (NRD) connects wounded warriors, Service Members, Veterans, their families, and caregivers to programs and services that support them. Their website provides access to services and resources at the national, state and local levels to support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.
A listing of jobs for Veterans throughout the United States. VetJobs a job board for reaching military veterans currently in the work force, including the duty military personnel who transition each year, the National Guard and Reserve who return to the United States each year from extended deployments, and their family members.
